What we like
- Native Apple HomeKit support at a price point where that's genuinely rare
- Also works with Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT, so you're not locked in
- Built-in IR blaster doubles as a remote control for your TV and AC
- Opens the door to Aqara's lineup of $15-20 door sensors, motion sensors, and temperature monitors
What could be better
- Primarily works with Aqara-brand sensors (not a universal hub for all brands)
- No Thread or Matter support on this model (the newer M3 adds that)
- Only connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks
Best for
- • Apple HomeKit users looking for affordable Zigbee sensors
- • Budget-conscious smart home beginners
- • People who want to add motion, door, and temperature sensors cheaply
Our verdict
The Aqara Hub M2 is the cheapest way to add real sensors to your smart home, especially if you use Apple HomeKit. For $40, you get a hub with a bonus IR blaster, and Aqara's sensors (door, motion, temperature) run $15-20 each. The newer M3 adds Matter support, but this model still works well and costs less.
